RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, WAIPAWA.

Wednesday, December 5. (Before Captain Preece, 8.M.) LUNACY. Eliza Goodyear was charged with lunacy, but a certificate was received by the Bench to the effect that the doctors would require another week for further examination of the patient. Case remanded to Napier till Thursday, 13th inst. CIVIL CASES. Simcox v. Jeffersey, claim £7 10s. Summons enlarged to 19th inst. Ritchie v. Hatana, claim £1 6s. Summons enlarged to 19th inst. Ritchie v. Drewitt, claim £6 Is, for board and lodging. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for amount claimed, with costs lls, witness’s expenses ss, and solicitor’s fee £1 Is. Mr Guy appeared for plaintiff. Brighouse v. Leopold, claim £32 10s. Mr Guy for defendant. Plaintiff made claim for drinks supplied £3l 9s, cash lent £l, and Is for a dinner. The drinks were supplied between 20th March and 21st April, 364 “ nobblers” being consumed by defendant and friends between the 19th and 20th April. Defendant denied that he was indebted, and that he had settled with Brighouse all claims the latter had against him. His Worship said he was astonished at such a case being brought into Court. No claim could be made for drinks supplied. He would give judgment for the cash lent and dinner, £1 Is, with costs 7s.
