A number of the unemployed to-day E resented a petition to the Muyor, asking im to request the Minister for Public Works to put them at work again. Joseph Fantham, a farmer, was drowned in the Waimakariri last night. He leaves a wife and family. Dunedin, December 6. George Townsend, the driver of the Castle-street tram car, by Rome unaccountable means, fell over the splashboard, but held on to the reins. The horses slewed round, and the hind wheel of the car passed over his body. He died two hours afterwards at the hospital.
