Lease of Land For New Saleyards
Following the calling of tenders, negotiations have been proceeding for the three interested stocks firms to lease from the borough council a block of land on Carter’s Flat to be used as a saleyards. However, advice was received at Wednesday night’s council meeting that the firms were not agreeable to the clauses requiring them to vacate the present saleyards and surrender their lease within two years; also to remove all buildings, fences and pens and re-erect them on the new site. The council decided to defer further consideration until the next meeting. It was stated that the present saleyards lease has nine years to run.
