£IOO Raised by Young Farmers

NATIONAL MEMORIAL SCHEME EFFORTS IN CAMBRIDGE The raising of its quota of £IOO towards the National Memorial scheme was but .one of the successful undertakings of the Cambridge Young Farmers' Club, during the past year. A full report of the year's activities was presented at' the annual meeting recently by the chairman, Mr T. Moore. The £IOO was raised by the establishment of a labour force which worked at week-ends and, other spare time for various farmers of the district. "I feel the work done to fill our quota for the National Memorial the most successful," said Mr Moore. "It was no small task to raise over £IOO and to be able to say we did it by our own hard work is of great credit to the club. There was quite an amount of outside praise for cur labour force." The report added that the membership was slightly lower at approximately 40. The finances showed an apparent loss because of the annual dance, which had been a good revenue producer in the past could not be held. Actual expenditure was quite low. Regular club meetings were held, at eight of which there was a lecturer. Most of the field days were organised by the district committee and the standard was very high. The club entered two teams in the inter-club debating competition, the "A" team being beaten in the final. In June the club adopted the Cambridgeshire Club in England and many thankful letters were received for food parcels which had been sent. The club has a delegate on the Cambridge Aid For Britain Committee and this" organisation will be doing much important, work in the near future. A suggestion was before the meeting that the club should hold social evenings and indoor games during the winter, and circulars concerning this are being sent to club members. Mr P. Judd was appointed a delegate to the Waikato Central Agricultural Show Committee and Mr J. Shaw a delegate to the Aid for Britain Committee. Mr C. V. Duignan was elected auditor and Messrs J. Shaw and D. Fisher, trustees.
