Tennis Season Now Under Way

ST. ANDREW'S CLUB. OFFICIAL OPENING.' St. Andrew's Tennis Club members were favoured with a fine day when they opened their courts for play on Saturday last. There was a record number of players and visitors. In the absence of the President, Canon C. W. Chandler, Mr E. H. Leigh, vicepresident, opened the Courts. Mr Leigh spoke of the hard work that had been put into the two new courts during the Winter. He wished the Club a happy season and called on Mrs Chandler to put the first ball over the net. At present it is impossible to procure- netting for the new Courts and as soon as this can be arranged tho courts will be ready for play. A Yankee tournament was held during the afternoon, this being won by Miss D. Hill and J. Bell. 1 * THE ROTO-O-RANGI CLUB COMMENCING THE SEASON / A meeting of all those interested in the Eoto-o-rangi Tennis Chip was held •in the Roto-o-rangi Hafll recently. A committee was elected as f ollows: / President, Mr T. Wallis;/ice-presi-dent, Mr D. Clow; club captain, Mr R. Dahlbergffi secretary, Mr E. Carson; committee, Mas LyA. Duncan, Misses D. Campinyan/ S. Swindlehurst. v It was decided to hold a working bee at the courts on the following Saturday. >• HORAHORA CLUB The annual meeting of the Horahora Tennis Club was held in the Maungatautari No. 2 'School on Tuesday evening last. There was a good attendance of members and Ahe president, Mr R. S. Strawbridgi presided. Mr Strawbridge was Accorded a vote of thanks for the l/yal support he has always- given th/ club during his nine years asNsecrerary and president. \ / The election of officers for th© ensuing year resulted as follows: President, Mr J. Hicks; secretary and treasurer, Miss J. Osborne; club captain, Mr M. Judd; committee, Mesdames La Trobe, Cochrane and Miss Heyes, Messrs N. Heyes, D. La trobe, M. Judd and R. Strawbridge. It was decided to have a working bee on October 4 and open the season on October 11. Delegates to sub-association meetings are Miss J. Osborne and Mr N. Heyes.
