Supervisor Retires After Thirty-Five Years’ Service

After 35. years' service, Miss E. J. S. Black, supervisor of the Telephone Exchange at the New Plymouth chief post office and formerly supervisor at Cambridge, was farewelled recently by the Post Office Social Club. Miss Black retired from the Service yesterday. A report sent to the "Independent" states the chief post master, Mr H. Davis, presented Miss Black with an engraved wristlet watch and a fountain pen from the staffs of the chief post office. A gift from the Post and Telegraph Women's League was presented by Mrs. Davis. Both speakers referred to Miss Black's loyal and efficient service, and wished her a happy retirement. Others who joined in farewell references were Mr C. F. A. Waters, deputy chief postmaster, Mr C. Creelmah, supervisor of the New Plymouth telegraph office, and Mr H. Heatley, senior technician. Miss Black joined the department at Hokitika about 1912, She served at AVellington, Cambridge and other centres before she went to New Plymouth seven years ago. jy£R Ivan Litchwark announces in this issue he has disposed of his raido business in Victoria Street to Mr Norman Burt, of Nelson. The new proprietor is a young returned soldier. Mr Burt's young wife is a Scotch girl and a war bride. Mr Burt is a member of the Methodist Church and plays tennis. He intends to carry on the business much upon the same lines as at present, and is a qualified radio_ technician. Litchwark's Radio business has been operating for 24 years. Originally it was developed by the late Mrs E. Litchwark, assisted by her husband, the late W. J. Litchwark, who was a talented musician.
