Zones Suggested for Tennis Matches

CAMBRIDGE SUB-ASSOCIATION

PROPOSALS AT ANNUAL 4 MEETING Considerable discussion ensured at the annual meeting of the Cambridge Tennis Sub-Association when it was suggested that inter-club matches revert to the old system of being played in two zones—town and country. Delegates considered that country zone matches could start earlier in the day. Play could be in one grade with probabfy larger teams than the four men and four ladies as in the past.

The meeting decided that delegates pass the suggestions on to their clubs and report back to a general committee meeting on October 13. . All clubs in the district were represented at the meeting, the president, Mr V. C. Hollis, occupying the chair.. A review of the past season, which was considered very satisfactory was given by Mr Hollis. As well as considerable enthusiasm in the clubs,'the association had been well supported. For the first time, a tennis ball- had been held, and thanks were due to nil who had helped to make this social event a success.

Referring to the activities of the Waikato Association, Mr Hollis said he was pleased to be able to inform the sub-association, that junior coaching would be carried further ahead this season. Coaching would be conducted in Cambridge by the team of instructors from Hamilton. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr O. V. Simpson: president, Mr V. C. Hollis; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. R. Haworth and T. Bourke; secretary, Mr A. Turney; assistant secretary, Mr R. Haydon; general committee, Messrs J. Lynds, J. Hayes, F. Gardner and K. Cosson.
