Meat, Sugar and Tea Dearer on Monday
• As from'"Monday *next, meat,-tea and sugar vrilj. be dearer as,£he , result of thie withdrawal of Government .'subsidies. Gazetted last pight, the new ' scale of retail prices . for meat show increases ranging from ljd a pound for cheaper cuts, to 3d a pouqd for Choicer grades. 5 The retail price of sugar will be 6|d a pound and tea at 5/1+ to 5/5£ a pound. The new prices will mean an increase f of pound on sugar and 1/1-1 qn tea. The Minister of Supply, Mr Nordmeyer, has announced that . traders would be required to take stock before Monday and refund the subsidy on their stocks of unsold sugar and tea held at midnight on Sunday. A circular is -being sent to all retailers to this effect.
