CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ’BUS SERVICES FOR DISTRICT ’Bus services and shelters for the Cambridge district were again before the Executive of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce at it’s meeting on Thursday evening last. ‘ . A reply was received from Buses Limited, stating that the matter of shelters near the Anglican Church corner and the intersection of Hamilton Road and Hall Street, was receiving careful consideration.

There was some discussion on the subject of district services and finally it was decided to write to the Licensing Authority and to ascertain if Buses Limited had made application for additional services in the Cambridge district; the extent of the same and time-tables suggested. The executive requested that this information be supplied before hearing any such application. It was decided also to write to Buses Limited and to request that before any time-tables are offered to the Licensing Authority for permit that the executive be first consulted on the matter. More State Houses , . The Minister of Works, Mr Semple, replied to representations made by the Chamber for more State dwellings. Mr Semple stated that his department fully appreciated the needs of Cambridge and he gave an assurance that every centre’s housing needs were considered on their merits. He had arranged for a further contract of six houses. The Minister realised this six, in addition to the same number under construction, would not nearly meet the need, but it was an indication that Cambridge is not being overlooked. He hoped to arrange for a further contract in the near future.

The night watchman presented a detailed report for the period - and disclosed that no serious happening, had been experienced around the business area. A number of business people were still leaving lights* on in, their premises.
