PRICES UP AGAIN
FAT CATTLE IN DEMAND THE CAMBRIDGE SALE The N.Z, Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report that at their Cambridge sale on Monday an avei’age yarding of fat and boner cattle, were yarded, the latter making late rates, while the former, F.A. Bul_ locks and heifers were keenly sought after and made prices in advance of recent quotes A medium yarding of dairy heifers sold keenly to a competitive bench of buyers and realised an increase on recent sales in the Cambridge area. A small yarding of dairy cows came forward and medium prices were recorded.
In the sheep section hoggets - sold keenly and fat ewes made central yard rates. Fat pigs sold well and stores maintained their values, a keen sale resulting. /
Quotations were: Medium quality P.A. bullocks, £l9/7/6; medium quality P.A. Heifers, £l4; medium fat cows, £7/15/-'to £9/10/0; heavy boners, £6/1,0/- to £7/10/-; medium boners, £5 to £6; others to £4.; yearling Jersey heifers, £6/12/- to £B/12/-; P.A. yrlng steers £7/6/-; best quality springing heifers, £l6/10/„ to £24; medium quality springing heifers, £ll to £ls/15/-; later springing heifers, to £9/10/-.; best calved dairy heifers, £l2/10/- to £l6/10/-; best dairy cows (close to i profit), £l2 5/- to £l6/5/-; medium cows, £9 to £11; later calvers, to £B/15/-. Sheep: Fat woolly ewes, 40/-; store hoggets 27/6 to 34/-. Pigs : Medium baconers, £6/4/„; choppers. £7/3/-; buttermilk pigs, £4/16/- to £5/1/-; medium porkers, £4/5/- to £4/12/-; large store pigs, £3/12/- to £4; medium, £3/8/- to £3/11/-; slips, £2/8/- to £3; weaners, 33/6 to 46/-; Sows (close to farrow), £l3.
GAINING STRENGTH FEDERATED FARMERS At the conference of delegates of the Waikato Province of Federated Farmers in Hamilton on Monday, it &vas stated that the potential strength of the movement in the province would be between 7,000 and 8,000. This was revealed during a discussion concerning the appeal for funds. As a contrast to the 30/- annual membership, the director of appeal, Mr F. C. Roberts, quoted contributions of some of ’the industrial organisations, and pointed out that where the industrial union members were united to protect their wages and working conditions, the farmers had to protect them both, together with considerable assets.
