YOUNG FARMERS

THE CAMBRIDGE CLUB ORGANISING LABOUR At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Young Farmers’ Club recently Mr T. Moore presided over an attendance of 20 members. After considerable discussion it was decided to commence a labourforce as soon as convenient. -The Cambridge area will be divided into districts and each district'is to have an organiser. Any farmer wanting labour will be invited to notify their district organiser or the club secretary. Conditions were decided in eluding the charge of 3/- per hour. Federated Farmers body is to be notified of the scheme and it is hoped to be able to accept any type of work offered. - Mr J. E. Davies, of the Department of Agriculture, Hamilton, gave a talk entitled “The Grass Crop.” He stated that N.Z. had -34 million acres of grass and only 2 million acres .of crops. He explained that, as with other things, plant life is to reproduce itself and so soon as this was done it ceased, to grow. For this reason, pastures should never be allowed to seed, but should be kept short for repeated reproduction. The lecturer also explained certification of seed.

At the conclusion Mr Davies was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
