THE COMPETITIONS

ENTRIES COMING TO HAND MEN’S VOCAL AT NIGHT At a meeting of the executive council of the Cambridge Competitions Society this week, the Secretary, Mrs D. M. Bear, reported that entries were coming in well for the annual festival to be held in October. Entries will close on Monday next. She commented that while there were good entries'from outside towns for the dancing, no local dancers had entered yet. The president, Mr M. O.’N Franklin intimated that several cups had been donated by Hamilton well-wishers. These will be allocated to the sections desired by the donors. The meeting decided that all the men’s vocal classes will be decided in the evenings. The dramatic ballet will also be decided at night. An innovation this year will be the class for school choirs, which will be non-competitive. There will be a performance by the massed performers, and arrangements were made for a rehearsal by the combined choirs on Thursday.
