Bowling Club’s Annual Meeting

THE CENTRAL YEAR NOTABLE PROGRESS When the president, Mr L. Kerry reported to the annual general meeting of the Cambridge Central BowlingClub on Wednesday evening last he stated that the year “had been one of notable progress.” „ After referring to the need for a continuation of the harmony and fellowship that existed in the club at present the president expressed his keen appreciation of the valuable work of the greens committee in Messrs P. Hinton, W. C. Arnold, H. W. Campin and M. K. Trott. During the latter part of the season a bore had been sunk on the club’s property and a high-pressure pumping system installed. This plant would' be in operation in the near future and would, undoubtedly, prove one of the club’s greatest assets. It would make the club independent of any shortage of water for the years to come.

Club Competitions

The president reported the results of the club’s competitions as follows: Senior championship, -M. K. Trott; junior championship, T. R. Franklyn; “Stacey” cup for first year players, L. Crawshaw; “Dave Walker Memorial Cup,” E. Stacey; Waikato Championship Banner held at Putaruru for leads and seconds: P. Hinton, H. Campin, W. Q. Arnold and W. Milicich fs). It was mentioned that the club was represented at ' many clubs’ fixtures during the past season. Sympathetic reference was made by Mr Kerry to the passing of one of the club’s foundation members in the late D. C. S. Walker. “The club is very much the poorer for his passing; but his memory will be kept ever fresh by the presentation to the club of a very, fine memorial cup by Mrs Walker.” In concluding the report the president extended his sincere thanks to all who assisted the club during the year and especially for the support accorded him as president. The balance sheet disclosed the club to be in a sound financial position, despite the fact it had had considerable expenditure during the year, including the provision of an artesian water supply.
