DIVISION URGED
EDUCATION BOARD’S AREA SOUTH AUCKLAND CLAIMS » That the Auckland Education Board was too large an area for efficient administration was the opinion of delegates to a meeting of the Hamilton Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations at the Hamilton West School. The meeting was of the opinion that the area be divided and that a South Auckland Education Board should be constituted. The secretary, Mr D. E. Scott, reviewed the steps which had been taken to urge upon the Government the need for reorganisation in the district. Letters had been written to Members of Parliament throughout the territory explaining the position, as well as to the Minister of Education and the Director of Education. Replies expressed interest in the proposal and promised careful consideration.
It was decided to circularise all school committees and parent-teacher associations in the South Auckland area advising them of the progress made, of plans for the future, and inviting their co-operation in efforts to have a South Auckland Education Board constituted.
An application for affiliation from the Raglan Parent-Teacher Association was approved and the Te AWamutu Association was also admitted.
Delegates were present from - the seven Hamilton schools and from Te Awamutu. Otorohanga and Ngaruawahia were unable to be represented because of travel difficulties. Efforts are being made by the Federation, however, to secure an allocation of petrol for delegates wishing to attend.
