Lewis, of Grosvenor Street. SURPRISE PARTY BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED On Thursday evening a delightful surprise party was given by friends of Miss Juanita Eaton, marriage takes place shortly. A very pleasant evening was spent playing games and singing. After supper the guest of honour was presented with many useful gifts.

Among those present were Mesdames I. L. Eaton, H. S. Betts, L. R. Haworth, Misses H. Rye, I. McFarlane, C. McFarlane, D. Hill, R. Chard, E. Caley, D. Marsh. NINTH BIRTHDAY • ' ROTO-O-RANGI INSTITUTE A delightful evening was spent recently in the local hall when the Roto-o-rangi Women’s Institute' celebrated the ninth year of their existence.

The hall was effectively decorated with bowls of chrysanthemums.

Mrs J. W. Wakefield and Mrs L. Duncan were presented with beautiful bouquets by Roto-o-rangi members. Mrs Turnbull, on behalf of the Fencourt Institute, offered congratulations and a beautiful bouquet. The following items were much enjoyed:—Songs—Mrs Gavin Reid, Miss Fay Nickle, Miss Margaret Headifen, Miss Jean McLeod, Mr Wood; duets, Mr C. Wood and Miss Mi Headifen also Mrs L. Duncan and Miss Jean McLeod; recitation, Mr George Goodwin.

Opportunity was taken to farewell members who are leaving the district. Mrs Wakefield, in making the presentations to Mrs Bell, Mrs C. Martin, and Mrs C. Wood, expressed regret at their departure, also goodwill for their future. The recipients suitably responded. The accompanists were Miss McLeod and Miss C. Wood, and the M.C. Mr Dahlberg. Dance music was played by Mrs Dahlberg, Mrs Headifen, and Mr Jones. KAIPAKI INSTITUTE FAREWELL TO MEMBERS The monthly meeting of the Kaipaki Women’s Institute, held on Thursday last, took the form of a social afternoon in honour of several members, who are leaving the district.

There was a large number present, including the members of the Church Guild, besides visitors from Auckland, Fencourt, and Cambridge. The president (Mrs A. Goodwin) extended a very warm welome to all. It was announced that Mrs Warren, the Waikato Federation president, would be present at the_June meeting. The roll call* “A Soldiers’ Handkerchief,” gave a splendid result, enough being handed in for the rest of the parcels for this year. The president gave a very interesting report of the annual federation meeting held in Hamilton recently, which she and Mrs F. ; Boyd attended as delegates. Mrs W. Cunningham was responsible for the motto/“ Unity Is, Strength.” Presentations were ma“de to four ladies, who are'leaving the district. Mrs Wallis, Miss Vera Wallis, Mrs Foster, and Mrs Middlemiss. In making the presentation of suitable gifts and floral emblems, the president said how much these members would be missed, both from the Church Guild and from the institute, for each had done splendid work in their organisations. Musical honours were accorded them, and each, lady .suitably responded. Items were given by Miss Mason (Auckland) and the school Children. A novelty competition was won by Mrs C. Cowley. The point for the floral competition was gained by Mrs W. Cunningham. A competition for six squares of apple -short-cake was won by Mrs A. Goodwin 1, Mrs A. M. Fisher 2.

The sales table did good trading under the care of Misses W. Tarr and E. Williamson. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses —Mrs R. Boyd and Mrs A. Cowley, jun.

MARRIED IN AUCKLAND CALLAGHAN-MOORE The wedding was solemnised at St. Matthew’s Church, Auckland, on Wednesday last by the. Rev. H. K, Vickery, of Gwenneth Jean, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Waiter Moore, of Queen Street, Cambridge, and Anthony, the eldest son of Mrs W. O’Brien and the late Mr A. Cailaghan, of Manurewa. The bride looked charming in a hyacinth blue angora ensemble, worn with silver fox furs and a smart matching hat, worn off the face. She carried a lovely spray of Dutch blue irisis and apricot rosebuds. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Station Hotel.
