THROWING OFF AT HOME GUARD

,ft>PEAL BOARD’S SERIOUS VIEW

For “ throwing off ’ ’ at the Homo Guard, a young Tauranga reservist, until lately a member of the E.P.S., now finds himself a member of the guard, having been put there by the Armed Forces Appeal Board, which did not approve of his attitude.

When the hearing of the appeals on behalf of two men began, the chairman (Mr S. L. Patterson, S.M.) said he had a report which indicated., that one of them was very prone to throw off at the Home Guard. The chairman read a. report received from the Council of Primary Production, which alleged that one reservist (G- A. Walker), in association with one or two others in the district, spent some time throwing off at the Home Guard. The report also expressed, the opinion that a few weeks in the Home Guard would do reservist a lot of good. In reply to questions, G. A. Walker said that the throwing-off referred to was only done,in fun, and was no different to the throwing-off by members of the Home Guard at members of the E.P.S. There was nothing meant by it. Reservist added that his brother (E. F. Walker) was a “member of •he Home Guard, and before joining up with it after his appeal, he was also a member of the E.P.S. “It is an attitude we don’t like, and the public doesn’t like it,” commented Mr Paterson. The board ruled that E. F. Walker’s sine die adjournment continue, reservist to continue, to serve with the Home
