Parade Cancelled. —The day parade of the Cambridge Home Guard, to have been held at Hautapu yesterday, was cancelled owing to the wet condition of the country over which manoeuvres were to have been held.

Men for Cam/p.—Last week a draft of 26 men from the No. 4 (Hamilton) military area went into camp at Hopu Hopu before proceeding overseas. The men from Cambridge were Ross K. Beange, Mervyn Mclnroy Cubis, Samuel M. Mayston and Kenneth A. Reid.'

Day of Prayer.—The GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, has received the following message from the private secretary to His Majesty the King: “The King desires that Sunday, September 7, being the first Sunday following the second anniversary of the outbreak of war, should be observed as a national day of prayer.”

Matamata County Roads. —During the past month 246 yards of metal were used on Buckland Road, according to the report of the engineer, Mr M. p. Fitzgerald, presented at the August meeting of the Matamata County Council. Among other roads to receive attention were Taotaoroa, Brunskill’s, Muirhead’s, French Pass, Gorton and Orepunga.
