OBITUARY

MR GEORGE HODGSON WELL-KNOWN SPORTSMAN The death occurred at Auckland on Monday of Mr ( George (Jack) Hodgson, a prominent figure in sport, who was well-known in! Cambridge. An attack of pneumonia caused his death. Mr Hodgson was 54 years of age and was educated at St. John’s College and Christ’s College, Christchurch. On leaving school he entered the business of his father, the late Mr James Hodgson, which became Jas. Hodgson and Sons, Ltd., woollen merchants. Mr Hodgson was a member of the Cambridge Trotting Club, and was closely associated with the Waikato Hunt. He owned a number of successful horses, including Tim Doolan, Thespis and Pendoon. Thespis was later given to Mrs Frank Baker, of Cambridge, who. still gains successes with him in the showring. f . He is survived by hi? wife, a son and three daughters. The son, Mr G. Hodgson, is a cadet, on Mr C. G. Vosper’s sheep-farm at Maungatautari.
