MONDAY August 11— Reliable Moscow advice stated that Germany might shortly attempt an invasion of Crimea, with the object of supporting the push for Kiev. # * London commentators agreed that the war on the Russian front had entered its most critical period, and the trend of the conflict would be determined on the results of the present battle. # * * Army, Navy and Air Chiefs attended a full meeting of the Australian Cabinet to discuss the Far East situation. TUESDAY August 12 — There was no sign of the Russian armies’ resistance collapsing in the face of the Germans’ third great offensive. The heaviest fighting took place in the Ukraine sector, where the Germans were seriously menacing Odessa. *)£ Of the 16,530 New Zealanders who fought in Greece and Crete, 607 were, killed, 1595 wounded, 2872 missing and 1717 taken prisoner.
