MOTOR DRIVER IN COURT FINE OF £2 IMPOSED As a result of an accident on the '“main . Leamington-Pukekura Road on, December 1, Raymond Vaughan Perkins, of Te Awamutu, was charged before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Cambridge Court on Thursday, with driving a car in a negligent manner. IHis car came into collision with a gig driven, by J. H. Davidson, of Pukekura. Constable C. H. Maisey stated that he visited the scene of the accident. Measurements of skidmarks of the motor-car made it appear that Perkins was travelling at an excessive speed approaching the inter-section, and in endeavouring to swerve his car to the left to avoid the horse and gig, the vehicle went into a side skid, with the result that the right-hand front part of the car hit the left-hand wheel of the gig. The measurements of the skidmarks on the road showed that the car skidded a distance of 53 feet from where the brakes were first applied to where it hit the gig. The gig was lying upside down, a distance of 32 feet 7 inches from where the car stopped. Defendant stated that he was always a careful driver and he considered that the accident had been caused as a result of heavy rain that was falling.
