MEETING AT AUCKLAND CAMBRIDGE HORSES FAIL Cambridge horses failed to race prominently on the first day of the Auckland Trotting Glub’s February Meeting on Saturday. Bold Venture, from the Mitchell stable was second in the Mount Albert Handicap. The favourite, Josedale Dictator, won the opening event for trotters in a good finish with Mah Jong and Glen Bingen. Bournemouth, who was fourth, is an improver, while Sophy Bingen showed her usual pace, but made several mistakes. After recent placings, Sweet Aloes was at false odds to win the Waiheka Handicap from Northern Smile, who endeavoured to lead all the way. Star Guide was third and Winning Post fourth. The Austra-lian-bred Brilliant Globe, who was favourite, lost all chance by failing to go away correctly at the start. The Great Northern Centenary Trotting Derby was won easily by Bonniedene, who has had more racing than the other six runners. Crucible’s effort for second was quite encouraging, and Charles Rex, who tired over the last bit, was third. Three Bells won the main event to prove himself one of the best twelve furlong horses in. the province. Our McKinney showed a return to form for second and Fortex deserved to be third after a slow beginning. The Cambridge trained Tangatu \vas almost in. line fourth. Beginning better than usual, Great Surprise trotted solidly to win the February Handicap by two lengths from Roi Grande, with Esther six furlongs away third, and Elissa, who broke several times, fourth. Finishing strongly, Tsana won the Railway Handicap of two miles from Bronze Queen, and Kete Kura, with Hillcrest fourth and Isabella Pointer a close fifth. Grand Dame showed improved form to win the Mount Albert Handicap by a length from Radio Queen., with John’s Last in third place ahead of. Cavalryman, who appeared the winner, when he led into the straight. Leading all the way, Vanora won the Papakura Handicap nicely from Bold Venture and Lady Vasclyne, who were also handily placed, but had no chance with the winner.
