WIN AT PERTH

THE PACER UENUKU FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT The Cambridge pacer, Uenuku, owned and trained by Mr R. A. McMillan, of Tamahere, won his first heat of the inter-Dominion Trotting Championship at Perth on Wednesday night. He won easily by five yards from Moreica (Western Australia) and Our Globe (Tasmania), in 2m. Bs. As a result of that victory, Uenuku gained 5 points, and heads the list with Main Derby (Victoria) and Globe Dorrell (Tasmania)), the winners of the other two heats. The heats in the mile and a half event will be run this evening, and Uenuku should have every chance

of winning at this distance, and also the two mile race next Wednesday.* The final, over one mile five furlongs, will be decided tonight week. Cabled advice was received by Mrs McMillan yesterday that Uenuku had strained a shoulder and might not be a competitor tonight in the second event of the championships. It will be unfortunate if Uenuku is unable to go to the post, but if the injury is not serious, Mr McMillan may be wise in waiting for the third event over two miles, so that if his pacer qualifies, he will be in good trim for the richly endowed final.
