LATE HEADMASTER

TRIBUTES TO MR J. G. CATRAN SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S SYMPATHY Feeling reference to the death of the headmaster, Mr J. G. Catran, was made at last night's meeting of the Cambridge School Committee, those present standing in silence as tribute to his memory. The chairman, Mr W. R. Garrard, spoke of the service that Mr Catran had given to the district in his capacity as headmaster. During the final term of last season, Mr Catran, although under medical treatment, had refused to give in with the strenuous work of examinations and had probably done more than he should, said the chairman. Sympathy with Mrs Catran and family in their loss was extended by Mr Garrard. "As well as being a good citizen, Mr Catran was a teacher above the average," said Mr H. E. Amyes, "In his death the school children lost a good friend." At School This Morning When the pupils of the Cambridge primary school assembled this morning for the commencement of a new year, the actingheadmaster, Mr W. Barton, spoke feelingly of the loss sustained in the death of Mr Catran. The children stood for a moment with their heads bowed as a silent mark of respect and love for their late headmaster.
