THE CHURCH ARMY

NEW BUILDING OPENED PAPAKURA MILITARY CAMP The first building in permanent materials completed for the Church Army in New Zealand was opened at the Papakura military camp on Tuesday evening. Since the opening of the camp a marquee has been used as the Church of England recreation room but with the opening of the new building the Church Army has a hall capable of seating over 400 men, a chapel—which has still to be dedicated —a buffet stretching right across one end for serving of coffee and tea, a living room for the chaplain, and a private writing room, in addition, to a stage and a dressing room. In the daytime the main hall will house a billiard table, table tennis and other recreational equipment. The hut has been built from Diocesan subscriptions collected as the result of an appeal by the Church of England Military Affairs committee. The building w r as officially opened by the camp commandant, Lieu-tenant-Colonel G. S. White, after which a concert party, the "Arcadian Revellers," entertained a large audience of soldiers.
