OBITUARY

MRS E. J. KINGDON

FIFTY-SIX YEARS IN DISTRICT

One of the oldest residents of the Cambridge district, Mrs Elizabeth Jane Kingdon, passed away at her residence, Shakespeare Street, Leamington, on Thursday, aged 88 years. The late Mrs Kingdon was born in Cornwall and came to New Zealand with her husband and family 56 years ago. Almost immediately they came to this district and settled at Pukekura. After living there for about a year they shifted to Leamington and deceased had resided there ever since.

A daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Weldon, Mrs Kingdon was a sturdy pioneer and possessed a character that earned for her the respect of many throughout this district and th e Waikato. She enjoyed remarkably good health, and despite her advanced years, retained all her faculties almost up to her death. She had a wonderful memory and could relate many interesting incidents of her early days in Cambridge district. She often recalled the fact that her mother lived to the wonderful age of 102 years.. Just before last Christmas Mrs Kingdon experienced an illness that somewhat impaired her health, and a recurrence on Thursday brought about her end. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church. She was very fond of reading, and had a clever hand for fancy work. The late Mrs Kingdon is survived by four sons, her husband having predeceased her about 25 years ago. The surviving members of, the family are Messrs Dick (Leamington), Percy (Tauranga), Archie (Auckland, and Irwin (Leamington). There are twelve grandchildren and several great-grandihildfeh.
