PRESENTATION TO MR LYE

TEN YEARS IN PARLIAMENT

In recognition of his services as the district's member of Parliament for ten years, Mr Fred Lye has been the recipient of a handsome presentation, an appreciation from his Cambridge supporters, for the work and the time he has devoted in the interests of the electorate.

The presentation was a handsome Jacobean cabinet of cutlery, containing ninety-nine pieces, and bearing a silver plate suitably inscribed. After the presentation had been made by Mr James Taylor, on behalf of about 40 supporters at a complimentary dinner held at the Masonic Hotel last week, Mr Lye expressed his warm appreciation of the very line and valuable gift. Mr Lye said that when a num. is a successful candidate at an election he generally meets thousands of supporters, but il was pleasing to him to know that in the hour of defeat there were many still his friends, solid men who had not deserted him.

He said that during the ten years of public service in Parliament he had had the honour and privilege of meeting many excellent people who could always be looked upon as solid and reliable even in the darkest days of adversity. In conclusion Mr Lye assured the gathering that he would always treasure the very beautiful presentation he had received that evening.

The chairman, Mr Wynn Brown, and other speakers paid line tributes to Mr Lye's faithful service to the electors over a decade. Mention was made of the great interest Mr Lye had shown in every portion of the electorate and of the beneficial measures and works he had been responsible in inaugurating in the Waikato through Parliament,
