GUARANTEED PRICES

"SHOULD NOT BE LESS THAN

1/3 PER LB."

VIEWS AT MORRINSVILLE

The question of guaranteed prices for dairy produce was the subject of lengthy discussion at a meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers' Union when opinion, was unanimously expressed that with men on public works receiving higher wages, and civil servants having the cuts restored, and with the possibility of a 40-hour week being brought in, farm wages will have to be raised to about £7 a week to be made equivalent, as farm labourers work about 80 hours a week. The opinion was therefore expressed that any guaranteed price for butterfat should not be less than 173 per pound.

It was decided to invite Mr H. Coulter, M.P. for Waikato, to meet members and discuss the problem, Mr Coulter will attend a special meeting of the branch this evening.
