‘THE LIFE OF VERGIE WINTERS’ AN ANN HARDING PICTURE “The Life of Vergie Winters,” starring Ann Harding, will be the feature at the Town Hall Theatre, to-night and to-morrow. In a typical small town, while modes change, human nature does not, and it is around the unshaken love of Vergie. %4«t«rs, the town’s milliner, and John Shadwell, its brilliant political leader, that, a the drama revolves.

Miss Harding is seen in the sympathetic, emotional title. role of Vergie Winters, and John Boles portrays John Shadwell.

On the brink of marriage, Vergie and Shadwell arc thwarted of this happiness by a lie told by Vergie’s father. Shadwell marries Laura, an out-of-town girl to whom he had been engaged. Learning how they have been tricked, Vergie and Shadwell are drawn together by the power of a love that, will not be denied. Because she will not allow him to sacrifice a brilliant political future, the two are forced to be content with stolen moments of association.

The affair becomes a town scandal, but Vergie proudly keeps her head erect, serene in the face of malicious gossip and persecution with the knowledge that her love is pure and fine. As the years pass, the romance leads to a climax which brings surprising and poignant developments.

Helen Vinson,plays the role of Laura and otjiers in the exceptionally large and imposing supporting cast include Betty Furness. Molly O’Day. Weslev Barry. Ben Alexander, Frank Albertson.
