ASSOCIATION’S GENERAL MEETING preparations for current [WINTER A general meeting of the Cambridge District Relief Committee was held in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, when the Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, presided over a fair attendance. The Report The acting-secretary, the Rev. C. W. Clark, presented a report of the year’s activities. The committee had met seven times. Applications for relief had been granted in a number of instances. A drivo for clothing was conducted, the local Boy Scouts lending valuable assistance. Much clothing was obtained. The depot organised by the association was open for 3 5 weeks. Throughout the district 185 parcels were distributed to some 80 families. A considerable quantity of jam, etc., was also given out to needy cases. £5 was donated for the subsidising of the transport of firing. A concert, raised for the assistance of the association, resulted in a donation to the association of £l6. Assistance was received from art unions to the extent of £92. Thanks were extended to Mr E. Betts, for the use of a room in Empire Street as a depot, and to The Independent for generous free publicity. The balance sheet showed that the year commenced with a credit of £7 and concluded with an increased credit. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Election of Officers The following officers were elected: President, Rev. C. W. Clark (re-elect-ed); secretary, Captain Coxhcad; treasurer, the Rev. C. W. Clark. A general committee of a fully representative nature was elected. Executive committee: Mesdames A. Gane, S. Lewis, A. Macdonald, Souter, H. Alan Bell, E. L. Hardy, C. W. Clark, G. Lambie, Miss Fisher, Messrs C. H. Priestley, S. L. Yale, S. N. Ziman, Revs. A. C. McLean and James Richards, Mr H. Alan Bell, and the chairman and secretary. Raising Funds The question of raising funds for district relief was discussed, Mr S. Is. Ziman stating that the proceeds from Dominion art unions were now being applied to unemployment. He had noticed that the Minister had stated that for really benevolent causes, permissi m would be given to the holding of local art unions and raffles provided the prizes were approved of. Mr Vale suggested that they might co-operate with the Waikato Central Agricultural Association. It was moved that the Rev. Mr Clark and Mr Ziman wait on the association. Mrs Gane said she did not think they should get mixed up with a local art union, especially if they wove going to get more from the Dominion art unions. The Mayor stated that, ail local bodies in the country had been approached to urge upon the Government that the whole of the proceeds from art unions should be donated to unemployment relief. After further discussion the motion was Avithdrawn.

The Mayor further stated that the council had agreed to kill meat for the unemployed at the abattoirs free of charge. Mr Priestley said that in the distribution of meat the men were helping themselves. The chairman and secretary -were deputed to arrange for a depot. It was also decided to arrange for an early opening of a depot and the organising of a clothes drive.
