GOLDEN WEDDING

ME AND MBS W. EANSTEAD, WELL-KNOWN IDENTITIES. Yesterday Mr and Mrs William Eanstead, of Matangi, celebrated tbe fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Married at New Street, Fisher Eow, Musselburgh, Scotland, on August 28, ISB3, Mr and Mrs Eanstead came to New Zealand on the ship Wakanui in 1000, and took up part of the Rukuhia Estate two years later, farming there until they went to Matangi in 1900. After carrying on farming at Matangi for a number of years Mr Eanstead subdivided his property, which was taken up by his five sons, who are now well known throughout the district. While in London on holiday Mr Eanstead joined the British section of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force at the outbreak of the Great War, and served in Egypt with the Mounted Field Ambulance, also taking part in the landing on Gallipoli. ” After the war he Teturned to Matangi, and later went with Mrs Eanstead to Eaglan, where they lived in retirement for about 10 years. They have since returned to Matangi, where they are living at present. Mr and Mrs Eanstead both enjoy good health and have a wide circle of friends in the Waikato, being especially well-known in Cambridge.
