NOTES ON THE SHOW

HERE AND THERE AMONG THE EXHIBITS. PRAISE FROM THE JUDGES. In addition to the visiting judges, visitors at the show yosterday were Messrs D. Stewart Reid, of Ngahinepouri; E. D. McLennan, of Papakura, and Ben. Myers, of Auckland, the latter being the owner of the well-known and performed hunter, Heather Belle. An official who has been associated with the; home industry department for a great number of years, commenting on this year’s exhibition, said the entries wei'e most gratifying and the quality as a whole was particularly good. The judge of the home cookery, jams, preserves, etc., said the quality was of a high standard, and he would add that it was in keeping with the reputation the district ladies had earned for themselves in past years. In the garden and field produce sections, the entries in the latter were small, but this is not to be wondered at as the dates of the show are a little early for satisfactory exhibits of matured roots. One of the outstanding features of the home industry department is the fine exhibition of needlework, and it was noted that entries were included from all parts of the Dominion. There are entries from as far away as Whangaroi in the north and Wairarapa in the south. There are many very fine exhibits of women's and girls’ handiwork, and the judge of this section, Mrs A. H. Storey, of Te Awamutu, was very pleased with her department, which she classed as]the best she hacf judged in South Auckland for a long time. Mr E. D. McLennan, of Papakura, the well-known authority on Jersey cattle, who was,a visitor to the show yesterday, paid a very fine compliment to the Jerseys in the ring. Ho remarked that he had intended to return home on Tuesday night but when he saw the entries in the catalogue that night he determined to. stay for the show and lie had not been disappointed. _ He was satisfied that the quality of the section was even better than the high standard set at previous shows, and in fact somo of the entries were better than those exhibited at the last Royal Show.
