DECEMBER MEETING. f GENERAL BUSINESS. The December meeting of the Waipa County Council was held yesterday at the county offices, Te Awamutu, and attended by Crs. S. C. Mucky (chairman), S. S. .Saelbrey, J. S. Fisher, T. Church, J. T. Johnson, R. C. Speake, N. Reid, W. McGee, A. Livingstone, L. F. Peacocke, A. 11. Storey, G. Clarke, and Messrs J. W.‘Civil (engineer) and T. Grant (clerk). Main Highways Subsidies. The P.W.D. advised the payment to the credit of the County Fund account of the sum of £2872 G/9, representing refunds on maintenance and construction of main highways as follows: — Great .South Road, £2112 17/-; Te Awamutu to Cambridge, £282 7/3; Hamilton to Whatawhata, £313 13/10; Kilii-kihi-Arapuni, £IG3 8/8. In referring to this the engineer reported the Main Highways Board had made, several cuts on some of the highways within the county, which would affect very materially the amount of work done on those roads. He had •written the board to ascertain whether or not it would be possible to have the monies transferred from certain estimates to other work, where Estimates had been overspent; also asking for a further £SOO which would be spent on general works." The estimate for the To Awamutu-Cambridge highway had been put down as £.1339, but the Main Highways Board had now cut this down to £IOOO. Heavy Traffic Fees. The Town Clerk, Hamilton Borough Council, forwarded a statement shelving the allocation of heavy traffic fees for 14 months ended 31st May, 1930, Waipa County Council’s proportion from the pool being £543 9/9. The- clerk reported this amount was £240 more than last year owing to the expenditure on highways being considerably higher for the past period. Cancer Campaign. The chairman of the executive committee of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society asked for a donation towards the funds. It was agreed that £5 5/-'be donated seeing this object was a most deserving one. Brett’s Deviation. Mr A. H. Brett advised that he was still willing and agreeable to give, without payment, the piece of land offered to the Parawora Road Board some years ago for the purposes of a road, and to execute a transfer of same to His Majesty the King when called upon to do so provided the council paid the cost of transfer and legalisation of the road.' , . . It was moved that steps be taken to have the cjpviation legalised. ' Model By-laws. The secretary, N.Z. Counties’ Association advised that the manuscript comprising the model by-laws had been received from the association’s solicitors, and quotations for the printing had been received from various firms, the accepted price being 2/- per copy. The secretary desired to know the number of copies required by the council. Decided to purchase the required number of copies of the by-laws. Tokanui Road. The medical superintendent, Tokanui Mental Hospital, iiitimatcd that he had received advice from Wellington stating that the Director-General has been unable to obtain a grant of £l3O towards putting the Tokanui Road in good order owing to no funds being available. The engineer was given authority to spend up to £IOO on the road.
