POLITICAL WAR-PATH

I FARMERS ON THE MOVE. WAIKATO SUB-PROVINCIAL VIEWS. “That this sub-provincial executive urges the Governor-General, by proclamation, to assemble Parliament ini mediately to consider remedies for the present desperate economic condition of the country, and the farming community in particular.” Such -was the text of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Waikato sub-provincial branch of (lie Farmers’ Union in Hamilton. Resolutions w r erc received from several branches in the Waikato supporting the proposal that the union take political action. Mr R. 11. Feisst said a large meeting of farmers at Cambridge had supported political action. The union got nowhere if it asked the Government to give consideration to major questions, such as taxation, yet if a Labour member approached the authorities they were “ all cars.” He was satisfied the union would adopt political action in the near future,in spite of all the efforts of those who wished to prevent it. The farmers had their backs to the wall and were going to resist; the unjust legislation which was doing so much harm •to the country. The president, Mr J. H. Furniss, considered that all political parties should lay their cards on the table to let the farming community know how far they would go to relieve its burdens. If none of the present parties would come into the open the union would kno\y what to do. It was decided that the various political parties be invited to confer with the Auckland Farmers’ Union on political and-farming matters. * . V' •. .
