TE KOUTU LAKE

DISCOLOURATION AND CONTAMINATION. ' IMPROVEMENTS WANTED. • Complaints have reached us regarding the state of the Te Koutu lake, in the local Park or Domain. Residents will have noticed that during the past few weeks the water in the lake has changed colour, gradually becoming of a s rc ll° wl eon tinge," and assuming an objectionable appearance. Residents living in the vicinity complain that the Jake-is also giving off a rather offensive odour;

It Would certainly appear that the condition of the lake is gradually becoming worse, due, no doubt, to faulty drainage, and the steady giowth of weeds. I - ' >-^~

On the matter being mentioned v to him by a reporter, Mr S. Lewis (chairman of the Domain Board) stated that he was well aware of the bad condition of the lake, though he did not think that the odour arising therefrom wis pronounced. He admitted that improvements were urgently required, to meet the conditions, and said that he was most hopeful of a favourable hearing when the Domain Board met the*representatives of the local bodies: affected, when proposals would be put forward for a scheme that would enable the board to secure means to effect much-needed improvements to. the lake and Park. "

Representatives of the Borough Council will meet the Domain Board on Friday (to-morrow) in connection with this matter, and the board will meet the Waikato County delegates at an early date.
