GOOD FRIDAY TALKIES
A COUNCILLOR'S OBJECTION. PROGRAMME TO BE APPROVED. At the monthly meeting of the Borough Council on Thursday evening a letter was received from the local theatre management asking permission to screen a suitable programme on Good Friday. Cr C. W. Clark said he objected to the request. Cr W. G. Care: I understand that in 'the past approved programmes have been screened.
Cr Clark said he objected because Good Friday was a holy day. He objected on principle. Gradually the holy days of the year were being lost sight of in the pursuit of entertainment.
It was moved by Cr Care and seconded by Cr Wilkinson that permission by granted subject to approval of the programme, the matter to be left in the hands of the Mayor and town clerk.
The motion was carried, Cr Clark
dissenting.
