Cr Wilkinson brought up the matter of mooring sites at the river at the bottom of Duke Street. He stated that doubt existed as to who was the authority to apply to for mooring sites —the Marine Department or the council.

The clerk explained that the waters of the river were under the control of the Marine Department while the river banks were controlled by the council. Cr Wilkinson said he asked the question for the reason that a representative of the Shipping Company had informed a member of the Councillor's family that if he did not shift his' boat, which was 50 yards from the wharf, "it would be squashed.". Under these circumstances it was desirable that all interests on the river should be protected. It was decided that the Mayor and Cr Wilkinson be a committee'to inspect the area and allocate sites for small boats. A Sub-Division.

The council approved of a sub-divi-sion of section owned by the Bank of New, Zealand fronting Victoria Street and now sold; ajso a sub-division in connection with a small strip next to the old Bank Champers sold to Mr C. H. Priestley.

Cr Boyce was opposed to the approval of the sub-division unless an assurance was given by the purchaser of the 25ft section that a right-of-way would be provided. Cr Boyce pointed out that with all the bank property built over with business premises traffic congestion was likely to result, especially when no provision was made for back entrances. It was pointed out that the council had no power to compel a right-of-way, it being private property. General. The Fire Brigade was granted permission to hold a demonstration, on the Square on 29th inst., and to make S charge of one shilling. Cr Boyce brought up the condition of Dominion Avenue.
