ADMIRAL BYRD’S ADDRESS. (Own Correspondent). Hautapu school children were amongst the large audience that listened to Rear-Admiral Byrd’s speech by radio from Dunedin on Tuesday afternoon. The reception was very clear and was a credit to the Broadcasting Company. Mr T. Hargreaves kindly loaned his wireless set for the occasion, it being fitted up at Mr Graham’s residence. The children assembled on the lawn and the older scholars listened with interest to the great explorer’s speech. Building Activities. Evidence of prosperity in the district is shown in new dwellings being erected. Messrs Moore and Hardy arc at present erecting a modern bungalow for Mr J. Morris. Mr G. A. Watt is adding to and remodelling his residence o.nd when completed will be a fine modern bungalow. Personal. Residents of the district will be interested to know that Mr Keith Cowan, late of Hautapu, is in training with the Samoan Police Force now at Trentham. Mr P. Miller arrived home on Monday, after attending the Army Rifle Meeting at Trentham the previous week.
