BOWLING

THE CAMBRIDGE CLUB. WEDNESDAY TOURNEY FINAL. The local Bowling Club’s representatives have put up a very fine performance in inter-club games this season. Altogether nine inter-club matches have been played, both at home and away, and so far the club has an undefeated record. The only defeat the club sustained was against the Taranaki representatives who played here recently. Despite the fact that the club has one of the largest memberships outside Auckland, the standard of play of the members as a whole is* very high, as will be appreciated by the above excellent record.

The veteran local bowder, Mr William McFarlane, whose bowling record is referred to elsewhere in this issue, has donated a very fine medal for the first year championship this. ycar. The competition has not yet been finalised.

ONE-DAY TOURNEY FINAL. WON BY CLAUDELANDS TEAM. The final of the one-day tourney played on the local greens last Wednesday took place at the local greens yesterday afternoon, the finalists being Claudelands: Goodwin, Clevclev, Speight, ’Whitten (s) and Cambridge: Perkins, Hay, Gibson S. R. James (s). The final, which previously ended in a draw, was a capital game and resulted

in a win for the Claudelands’ team by 19 points to 16 on a full 21 head game. The game was well contested all the way and there was never more than three points margin between the respecAt the 19th head the scores were 16 all. Claudelands got a single on the 20th and on the last head a bowl falling back decided the issue in Claudelands’ favour. Had it fell forward Cambridge would have got the shot and made another tie, but as it was the visitors got a brace and the game.

After the match both teams w-cro heartily congratulated by Mr H. H. McCathie, on behalf of the club, the speaker presenting the winners with a supper service.
