FIGHTING CANCER

AN ALLEGED CURE. LEAMINGTON RESIDENT’S CLAIM Of all the diseases in the world today cancer is regarded as among the most malignant. For long enough it has continued its deadly work, and although up to the present no definite cure has been officially established, scientific 'research has done much to check the disease. .

From time to time in late years hopes have been raised by alleged cures and only recently much attention was focussed on a so-called cure. However, when the remedies’ have been investigated by medical men, the claims made for their efficacy have not been fully established. Although some of the alleged cures have been finally proved to bo of little value, this should not deter anyone interested who may think they J\ave a remedy—either as a or a preventative coming and have their treatment "medical experts. One thing that should bo guarded against arc efforts that may bemad e to exploit the public before such?? “cures” have been definitely proved effective. Leamington Man’s Claim. Cambridge district residents will now learn with interest that a wellknown Leamington resident claims that he has a recipe for the cure and prevention of this dreaded disease. At the Matamata Show a fortnight ago, Mr W. Campbell, of Flat Park, Leamington, waited on the Minister of Health, Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, and put forward his claims for the recipe which he possesses. Mr Campbell also handed a copy of the recipe to the Minister with the request that it be thoroughly investigated by the department’s experts. His condition is that if the remedy is found efficacious then he should be reasonably compensated. The Minister was interested in Mr Campbell’s claims and assured him that the recipe would be tested. Interviewed a few days ago by an Independent representative, Mr Campbell was quite willing to discuss the matter and to state the reasons for his confidence in taking it-before the Minister of Health. Mr Campbell stated that 18 months ago he was a sufferer froip cancer, and was given up by his doctors as a hopeless case*. Just prior to that time he had undergone several/operations to his face, and extending right down the throat. Having discovered the alleged remedy, he had immediately applied it to himself with the result that since then there had been no further advance of the disease. Mr Campbell - certainly appeared to be in good health when he spoke to the In- ) dependent representative. Further Evidence. Mr Campbell stated that if the department required it he was prepared to bring additional evidence in support of his remedy. An eidcrly lady in Christchurch, who had had the disease for a number of years, and who had been , sent home ns incurable, had used his treatment and derived great'benefit. Mr Campbell stated also that only three months ago a Cambridge- lady suffering with the disease went to Hamilton'for treatment, and was then sent on to Auckland. She had one treatment, of radium only and then continued with his treatment with the result that she is now improving in health.

Mr Campbell—whose recipe is one of simple composition —has resided for the past few years at Flat Park, prior to which he was in North Auckland, but he is really an old Canterbury settler, having resided in that province upwards of 45 years.

There is no-doubt that.'the department will take the necessary steps to have this alleged cure fully investigated. If it should be found efficacious then Mr Campbell will have the satisfaction of knowing that he has brought to the public, and especially to sufferers of the disease, something of inestimable value.
