AROUND THE ROADS

WAIKATO COUNTY. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following extracts were taken from the Waikato County engineer's (Mr A. A. Woodward) report presented at the county meeting on Tuesday:— Great South Road Main Highway: Both sections of this road have been kept constantly graded and are in fair order. The maintenance of this road under present conditions of heavy fasc traffic is very difficult, and it will con- • tinuc to be so until the road is permanently surfaced. Cambridge-Morrinsville Main Highway: A length of this road near the factory at Hautapu has been scarified and regraded, and the whole length to Ferris Hill regraded, also from Murphy's corner to Tauwharc. This road is somewhat rough over Ferris Hill, but the balance is in very fair order. Tamahcre Riding: A good many of the roads in this riding have been regraded and repaired. Killens' and Bern's roads have been regraded and patched with new shingle. Martin 's and the Tram roads have been regraded, and also Woodcock's and Woodsidc roads have had attention. Repairs have been carried out to one wing of the Black bridge on the Tauwhare-Narrows road. The roads generally in this riding have been much improved. Cambridge Riding: Repairs have been carried out to several of the roads in this riding. Hannan's road, part of No. 2 Station road, and Broadmeadows road near Bruntwood have been graded and repaired with gravel where necessary. A culvert at the corner by Haufapu school had to be opened up and repaired, and is now in good order. Hooker's road is fairly rough and is being repaired and will be scarified and re-metalled where necessary. The following roads have been graded during the month: No. 1 Station road, Hannan's, part of No. 2 Station road, Fillcul's, Broadmeatiows, and Bruntwood roads. The new bridge on the To Miro-Kiwitahi road has been completed and tenders were called for the construction of this road, but no tenders were received. I am endeavouring to make arrangements to have this work carried out. Plans have been completed and forwarded for approval for a small bridge to replace a concrete culvert near Jamieson's on Aspin's road.
