AUTUMN SHOW
HAMILTON FIXTURE. BEAUTIFUL DAHLIAS. . The Hamilton Horticultural Society's annual autumn show was held on Tuesday last, and 'was a most beautiful show, though not a particularly large one. It was held at St. Thomas' Hall. The feature of the show was the display of dahlias, in which the modern decorative blooms predominated. Many of the blooms were magnificent, comparing well with those exhibited anywhere, and the judge (Mr G. W. Wright of Auckland) spoke most highly of both the dahlias and zinnias as being out of the ordinary.
The champion blooms were: Champion of champions, Mrs O 'Sullivan's (Te Awamutu) "Sole Mio," a very large and beautiful yellow dahlia, with a suggestion of apricot; champion giant decorative, Mrs O'Sullivan's "Margaret Hennessy," large rose pink, flushed with yellow; champion pacony dahlia, Mrs H. M. Hammond's "Korrine"; champion • cactus dahlia, Mr A. W. Ward's "Samuel Sue."
The zinnias made a fine show, and were particularly fine, while'the collections of cut flowers' were, as usual, excellent;? Fruit and vegetables were good, though not large classes. The decorative section was not quite so good as usual, but made a fine display. Mrs M. Wells and Miss Christophers, of Cambridge, acted as judges in this latter section.
Unfortunately Cambridge was not represented among the exhibitors.at this show, which is exceptional, and a fact much to be regretted, as the friendly rivalry between the two towns in these matters is helpful and interesting.
