Mr and Mrs Roy Haysmith, of Cambridge, are at present spending a holiday at The Mount, Tauranga.

The Morrinsville A. and P. Association's 11th annual show was officially opened by Mr Fred Lye, M.P., yesterday. The Waikato County Council has granted leave of absence for six months to Cr T. H. Henderson, who intends to take a trip to the Old Country.

The Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, arrived at Dunedin yesterday, and is busy with Reform supporters in Otago.

Mr J. Robertson, of Wellington, secretary of the Alliance of Labour, has been elected to represent the Labour Party of New Zealand at the Labour Conference at Geneva.

Mr-W. McFarlane, of Grey Street, returned to Cambridge on Wednesday, after spending a three weeks' holiday on the East Coast, principally at Whakatane and Taneatua. Mr McFrlane is greatly improved in health as the result of his trip.

Following on the unfortunate accident a few days ago we are pleased to observe that the Power Board engineer, Mr H. C. Oaten, is now about again, though he will not be taking up his duties for a few days yet.

Yesterday afternoon Mr and Mrs E. Veale were entertained to afternoon tea by the ladies of the Cambridge Croquet Club at the lawns. During the afternoon Mrs A. Hopkirk, in a happy little speech, presented Mrs Veale with a handsome handbag on behalf of the club members. Mr and Mrs Veale suitably replied in a few very feeling and sincere remarks.

Mr. Frank Hicks, of Maungatautari, who has been at the Waikato Hospital for a lengthy period, yesterdaj r paid a brief visit to Cambridge, and returned to the institution later in the afternoon. The many district friends of Mr Hicks will be glad to learn that his health is very much improved, though he expects to remain at the hospital for a month or two yet.

Mr C. H. Priestley (Mayor of Cambridge) and Miss Jean Priestley, returned to Cambridge yesterda3' morning, after a fortnight's visit to the South Island. During their absence Mr and Miss Priestley visited Christchurch, Dunedin, Mt. Cook Hermitage, the Cold Lakes district, Stewart Island, and many other parts, in addition to attending the municipal conference at Invercargill. They were delighted with their vioit. m

Mr A. E. Jamicson, of To Poi (son of Mr and Mrs Jamieson, Cambridge), whose home was .recently totally destroyed by fire, suffered very heavy losses thereby, the insurances, both on the buildings and furniture, being quite inadequate. Mr Jamicson has been singularly' unfortunate. Only recently he lost his wife, after a long and trying illness. Much sympathy is felt for him and his family in their loss.

Mr and Mrs E. Veale leave Cambridge on Saturday next for Tauranga. Mr Veale has been resident here for thirty years, during which time he has been one of our foremost, virile and valuable citizens, having been closely connected with many of our public activities. Citizens will always remember the fine service he has Tendered the town and district, and all will join us in wishing Mr and Mrs Veale every happiness in their new home at Tauranga.
