The membership of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce is now 33. The Chamber is considering ways and means of increasing the membership.

In October of this year it is anticipated tb.at.a- tri-weekly flying boat service will be in-operation between Wei lington and Nelson. The journey will take an hour and will cost £2 10/-. Mails will probably be carried at 2d or 3d per ounce.

A reminder is given district residents and especially the settlers of the Karapiro district that the new school at Taotaoroa will be officially opened to-mor-row (Fiiday) as advertised. The official opening will be performed by Mr Clinkard, M.P.

New Zealand newspapers take credit for being right up-to-date in supplying the news to their patrons, but the Waikato Times must certainly take the palm for quick work in reporting events. Yesterday's issue of this paper —the edition that was circulated in Cambridge before 2 p.m. —contained full details of a wedding that was celebrated at Hamilton at 3 p.m. that same day. We take our hats off to the Tin es, whose reporters are evidently studying American methods.

A few years ago the Kaimai Hill portion of the main road,.which links up the Matamata f .and Tauranga Counties, was a nightmare to motorists. The clay surface with its ruts and holes, and its hairpin corners every few chains, tested the driving capabilities of the most experienced drivers, while only the stoutest of vehicles could tackle the task of getting through after the slightest fall of rain. However, good work has been done of late, and to-day the condition of the road is a vast improvement. Of late much work has been done on the hill portion. Many of the corners have been cut back, while in other parts deviations have been made with the result that the climb over the hill is much less difficult. Much metal and shingle have been put down, and the Matamata County fide of the hill is in very good order at the present time.

Mr C. H. Priestley (Mayor of Cambridge;, who has just returned from his first visit to the South Island, was greatly pleased with Duncdin, Invercnrgill and Christchurch, and impressed with the solidity of these cities. 'He was rather surprised at the evidences of prosperity in many parts of the South Island, and the magnificent stone buildings in the two principal cities; and has come home more than ever satisfied that New Zealand is a wonderful country of enormous possibilities. Mr Priestley was delighted with the magnificent mountain scenery in the vicinity of the Southern Alps, and greatly enjoyed his visits to Quecnstown and Stewart Island, which well deserves its name of "the gem of the South." "I have seen many beautiful towns in my travels," the Mayor informed a Waikato Independent representative, "but have seen none that appeals to me so much as my home town, Cam- , bridge."

The roll of the secondary department of the Morrinsville District. High School is S'l, and of the primary school 430.

It is reported that several earthquake shocks occurred at Atiannui yesterday. A few were rather heavy. About 20 were counted between 9.35 a.m. and 2 p.m. A motorist who was in his car said that a shock was felt quite distinctly while he was driving.

Messrs T. H. Kelly and C. Grintcr returned to Cambridge on Monday after a weekend trout fishing expedition to Orakci-Korako, about ten miles from Ohinemuri. They secured a good bag and report that the sport is particularly good at present in the parts visited. The Maungatautari No. 2 School Committee are this year holding their annual school picnic at Okoroire Springs. The outing will be held tomorrow. All residents of the Maungatautari district are invited to attend, and help to make the function a great success.

In to-day's issue Messrs T. F. Richards and Co. have a large display advertisement announcing special Friday offerings at sale price, the first of the Friday specials commencing to-morrow. A special feature of to-morrow's offerings will be crockery at greatly reduced prices. "Various other specials will be offered and the public should not miss this unique attraction, with many lines at practically cost price.
