VALEDICTORY

A POPULAR TEACHER.

MISS WILTON LEAVES CAM-

BEIDGE,

During her five years' association with the secondary department of the District High School, Miss E. I. Wilton, senior lady assistant, has made herself very popular with the staff, pupils and parents alike , and consequently the news that she would shortly be leaving the district was received with genuine regret. More than that, Miss Wilton has proved herself a very able teacher, and her removal is a distinct loss.

Miss Wilton left Cambridge last night for Gcraldine, where she takes up her new appointment immediately. Prior to leaving the school yesterday afternoon Miss Wilton was presented with a camera from pupils and staff. The presentation was made by the headmaster, Mr P. G. Lewis, who referred to the happy associations of the staff and pupils with Miss Wilton, and their regret that she was leaving them. Mr Lewis also paid a tribute to Miss Wilton's capabilities as a teacher. Mr A. N. Macky, chairman, also voiced similar sentiments. Subsequently a dainty afternoon tea, prepared by the staff, was partaken, among those present being Mr and Mrs Macky. Presentation of Banner. : There was a happy incident at the function for after the presentation Miss Wilton reciprocated by in turn presenting t<. the school a beautiful ceremonial banner. In blue and white colours the banner is a handsome one, on it being inscribed the school's motto. 'fPortitor et *Rocto,*' and-the initials, "C.D.H.S." Miss . Wilton made a happy little speech and hoped that whenever the pupils '■ carried the banner on to the playing fields or elsewhere, it would bring them good luck and also remind them of their old school-teacher. The latter part will not be forgotten by the pupils. During the morning adjournment at the primary department Miss Wilton said good-bye to the school, with the hearty good wishes of the children and teachers.
