Sir Harry Lauder left Wellington on Friday for Australia.
The Primo Minister (the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) is suffering from a slight cold, and. is confined to his room. The Rev. H. S. Fussell, of Hamilton, has been appointed assistant curate at To Awamutu. The Rev. P. Clcary, of Gordonton, has been appointed assistant curate at Ngaruawahia. Mr. Fred Lye, M.P., left Cambridge last night for Wellington, to be present at the opening of Parliament on Thursday. Dr. Leonard Cockayne, the New Zealand botanist, has been made a foreign member of the Royal Society of Science and Belles Lettres of Gothenburg, Sweden. Captain C. P. Worley, of the Auckland Regiment, Countess of R-anfurly's Own, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces officers' decoration for long service.
Mr. A. H. Cockayne,'director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture since May, 1923, has been appointed Assistant-Director-General of Agriculture in succession to Mr. F. S. Pope, who recently retired on superannuation. .'
The members, of the Wellington Football Club farewelled their club mate, J. M. Tuck (formerly of Hamilton), prior to his departure for Australia with the All Blacks. The. president, in hand-' ing Mr. Tuck a small memento to mark his inclusion in the New Zealand Rugby team, wished him and the All Blacks success on the forthcoming tour.
