LOCAL AND GENERAL.

■ A meeting of the local branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will be held on Friday next, June 28th. A slight shock of earthquake was felt in Cambridge at about 3 a.m. on Sunday. This was followed by another tremor at 6 a.m. Both wore very slight, and many people did not feel them.

On Saturday night there were fully 180 couples at the Regent Hall/when the Regent Dance. Band held its usual weekly dance. The band played good dance music, and all present had a most enjoyable time. Stewart Reid, ex-M.P., at Cambridge on Friday evening, the speakers put forth reasons for the defeat of their candidate at the last election, the main reason being lack -of proper organisation. They were unanimously of the opinion that Mr. Reid had done his part well. -

A Roto-o-rangi farmer on Saturday discovered a thrush's nest .containing four eggs. This is remarkably early for birds to be nesting, and is another sign of the wonderfully mild winter we are experiencing. The farmer in question states that in all his long experience he considers this is the mildest winter he has known in this district.
