The engineer reported at the monthly mooting of the Pow'er Board yesterday that the number of consumers to date totalled 992, a nett increase of 9 for the period. A decision to commence a systematic attempt to stock the Waikato river with Atlantic salmon was reached, subject to certain reservations, by the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society on Thursday evening.

A final reminder is given concerning the fancy dress dance in aid of the Plunket Society to be held in the Hautapu Hall on Tuesday evening next. A free bus will leave the post office. First trip at 7.30.

At the monthly meeting of the Power Board yesterday thq secretary reported that revenue for. eleven months February 28th amounting to £11,555 as compared with the same period last year, show's an increase of £2740. This feature was received with expressions of satisfaction by thd members.

At the monthly meeting of the Leamington Domain Board on Thursday afternoon the chairman (Mr W. Richmond) reported that recently children had damaged certain portions of the gardens and also other property. A new advertisement in to-day’s issue appears over the name of Banlield Bros. This old established hairdressing firm: recently removed to more up-to-date premises at the Central Hotel corner. The new shop is well equipped and a clean, prompt service is assured customers. Banlield Bros, are hopeful that their enterprise will merit a generous share of the public’s support.

.The services at St. Paul’s Methodist Church to-morrow will be of special interest, not only to its members, but also the citizens as a whole. The Rev. C. H. Laws, D.D.. Principal of the College, will officiate at the morning service, and tlie Rev. W. J. Elliott, chairman of the South Auckland district/ at the evening. The timely topic of: the evening sermon will be: ‘ * Happy Homes and How to Make Them. ” As an appropriate solo Mr T. Boyce will sing “Home, Sweet Home.” All are cordially invited to join in these services. The Under-Secretarv of Internal Af--1 fairs, Mr J. Hi.slop, and the conservator of inland fisheries, Mr F. Moorhouse, returned to Auckland on Thursday from a visit to Tokaanu in connection with the proposed establishment there of a rainbow trout hatchery. It is hoped to have the hatchery erected and in operation this year so that ova may be supplied bv the department to acclimatisation societies and others requiring them. The Imtchery will be on the banks of a small stream running into the Tmigarire river, a few miles up the Waiotum Road from Tokaanu.

At the monthly nieeting of the Leamington Town Board on Thursday, Mr J. S. Fisher was present on behalf of tilt l Whips County Council, in connection with the high level bridge maintenance. Before retiring the council member took, the opportunity, as a member of a neighbouring local body, of congratulating the district on its progress and particularly its scheme of improvements at the Domain- Mr Fisher mentioned that recently lie was in conversation with Sir Henry Brett, who'had paid a fine tribute to Leamington’s general progress. Sir Henry had referred to the transformation of the district from a scrub anil fern covered wilderness to its present smiling rural appearance. Mr Irish er .said Sir Henry remembered the appearance/of Leamington district at the time of Sullivan’s murder, and his trip through the country to report that tragedy for his paper. The prosperity of the. district to-day was testimony to the settlers’ progressive spirit.

The annual meeting of S. Andrew’s Church will be held in the Parish Hall on Monday evening next at 7.45 p.m.

At the local Police Court this morning a first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged on his consenting to a prohibition order. A number of the local Girl Guides left Cambridge this morning to attend the big rally being held at the Auckland Domain. The total unimproved values have been reduced by nearly 11 per cent. The unimproved valuation totals approximately £259,225. Daily Co. was held in the' Oddfellows ’ Hall yesterday, the chairman (Mr M. Wells) presiding over a fair attendance. The meeting, of a private nature, dealt generally with Control Board matters.' A resolution was carried in favour jof the ward system on a tonnage basis of export for representation on the board, each supplier to companies to have the right .to vote. The chainiian and Mr F. Lye were nominated as delegates to the conference to be held* at Wellington on 28th iust., which will deal with the above and other matters concerning the board and dairy control. Mr Lye. withdrew in favour of the chairman, who was appointed the company’s delegate.
