Mr F. Hall, late head gardener of the Rotorua Government gardens, with his wife and family, recently arrived in Cambridge and intend to permanently reside in the district.

Professor Riddett, Professor of Agriculture -at the Auckland University, was in Cambridge yesterday. .Professor Riddett is arranging an itinerary of lectures on agricultural and economic subjects throughout the province, and will lecture at Cambridge at a later date. , The Rev. C. H. Laws, 8.A., D.D., who is on a visit to Cambridge as the guest of the Rev. and Mrs W. J. Elliott, is Principal of the New Zealand Methodist College, and is recognised as one of the leading minister of the Dominion. He will be in the district on official business for several days and is to officiate at the local Methodist Church on Sunday morning.

Prior to proceeding with the routine business of the Leamington Town Board, at the monthly meeting on Thursday, the chairman (Mr W. Richmond) feelingly referred to the .death, of the late Mrs Hicks, mother of Mr T. A.- Hicks, a member of the board. A resolution of sympathy and condolence was carried, the members standing in silence as a mark of t respdet. The clerk was instructed to convey the board’s sympathy to the /family and relatives.

At the monthly meeting of the Power Board yesterday afternoon a very hearty welcome' was extended by the acting-chairman (Mr W. Harbutt) on behalf of the board to the council representative on the board (Mr T. F. Richards). Mr Harbutt said the board had lost a valuable member in Mr W. J. White, but he. felt certain His Worship’s services would be. of great value and would help to cement relations between the board and the council in the best interests of Ifie borough and district. Mr Richards thanked the chairman and members for the warm welcome, and assured the board that no effort on his part would be wanting to promote harmonious relations between the* board aud. council.

Prior to the Easter holidays the pupils of the Leamington school tendered a farewell to Miss J. Duriou, who has left for Auckland to take up a higher grade appointment. The chairman (Mr A. E. Peppercorn), on behalf of the committee, parents and children, expressed appreciation of Miss Duvieu’s 3i years’ service at the school, and congratulated the teacher on her promotion. As a token of the children’s esteem, Mr Peppercorn handed .Miss Darien an umbrella and handbag. The headmaster (Mr Heath) heartily endorsed the cloudmanjs remarks. Miss Durieu feelingly responded and thanked one and all for their kind consideration during her period at the Leamington school.
