ARAPUNI

GENERAL PROGRESS. CONTRACTORS'' ORGANISATION The Armstrong, Whitworth Co.’s staff at Arapuni is gradually being augmented to the full strength that will be required when the work is in full swing. In this connection, Mr. 11. D. Martin, the etnginccr from England, who is to be responsible for the building of the Arapuni dam has arrived, and Mr Wilford, junr., from Wellington, has joined, the, staff as transport officer. • ' ARAPUNI POST OFFICE. The Arapuni post office iis expected to have a fairly heavy amount of business to handle, during the currency of the contracts, and besides doing ordinary business and i sto have a Morse instrument for telegraphic use. The post office is at- present in the Public Works set of offices in the permanent village, but a site for a separate post office- building is reserved nearby, while offers to donate sites have also been made by private land-owners. As the present accommodation will apparently prove inadequate in more ways than one, it is expected that a post office will be erected, but so far no announcement as to the Department ’s decision in this regard has been made. Engaging the Workmen. It is expected that by the end of next month or 'early in December workmen to the number of 200 or more will have been engaged and that as the various undertakings comprising the scheme are developed this number will gradually be increased to about 000 by some time next year Mr Finlayson, who is to conduct the catering at the workmen’s camps, is already well forward with the arrangements in this department. Tile Horahora Road. The Mataniata county has recently graded the Horahora road, making a good road throughout from Hamilton to Arapuni, via Cambridge. This is attracting a great deal of tourist traffic, including a, regular motor service from Hamilton to Tuupo, via Horahora, Arapuni, and Pu!arum.
