FEEL OFF A TRAIN AT MERGER.
MAORI DIES IN HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, this day. A Maori named Ben Tuhi, of Pukekohe, died in the hospital as the result of injuries through falling between, a train and the platform at Mercer station. PIG HUNTING ACCIDENT. PEA RIFLE EXPLODES. WHILE CLUBBING A HARE. (By Telegraph—Press Association) NAPIER, this day. Air G. D. Patchett, clerk of the Walpukurau post office, was out pig hunting yesterday when he saw a hare running towards him. The pea rifle was loaded and cocked, but as the animal was so close he decided to club it. The rifle exploded, the bullet lodging in Patchett’s abdomen. He was seriously injured, but is progressing favourably. FIRE BRIGADES. ANNUAL DEMONSTRATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association) TE KUITI, this day. The twenty-third annual demonstration of the Auckland District Fire Brigades' Association commenced here on Saturday and concluded last evening, ninety firemen competing. The championship shield was taken by Onehunga, with an aggregate of 28$ points. Taumarunui ,as runners-up, secured the Cambridge Brereton Shield, newly presented by Cambridge for the most points other than rescue and reel events.
